چکیده

One of the hypotheses invoked to explain the occurrence of different diseases associated with dengue virus infection is that dengue viruses differ in virulence properties. Observations on virologically studied dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)"'8 patients have reasonably established that both of these diseases are associated with dengue viruses of all known antigenic types. The possibility that virus strains within the same type differ in their virulence properties and that these differences might be genetically associated with surface antigen or other readily measured markers has not been examined. This hypothesis was the initiating motivation for this study. Using single lots of mouse immune ascitic fluids, we tested a large number of dengue viruses by a plaque reduction neutralization test and the results were compared with the disease response and geographic origin of virus strains. A few observations on biologic properties of the examined dengue virus strains are included.

Observations related to pathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever. I. Experience with classification of dengue viruses.

Two distinct syndromes associated with dengue virus infection are prevalent in tropical Asia; dengue fever, a benign disease characterized by fever, myalgia, leucopenia and a maculo-papular rash and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), accompanied by fever, shock, hemorrhagic diathesis and a significant mortality.1 The dengue viruses, a group of antigenically related members of the Group B arthropod...

Observations related to pathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever. IV. Relation of disease severity to antibody response and virus recovered.

We have previously shown that disease differing widely in severity and prognosis is included in the entity, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Thailand."2 Nearly 40 percent of 523 children hospitalized with DHF had a syndrome characterized by shock following a fever of several days duration. The rest had less severe febrile illnesses with various mild hemorrhagic manifestations. When sera from t...

Observations related to pathogensis of dengue hemorrhagic fever. VI. Hypotheses and discussion.

A series of communications have described multidisciplinary studies of the response of the host to dengue infection and observations on the biologic attributes of dengue viruses isolated in Thailand during 1962-1964.1-2 This paper attempts to integrate these and other observations into hypotheses of dengue virus-human host interactions. In the first part of this paper, hypotheses and important ...

An Imported Case of Dengue Fever in Iran, 2015

Background: Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease which is not known to be endemic in Iran. Case Report: In October 2015, a 32-year-old Iranian woman was admitted with acute unexplained high-grade fever, headache, pain, rash, diarrhea, leukopenia and elevated liver enzymes after returning from India. Serological and molecular analysis for Dengue virus (DENV) infection revealed positive ...

Clinicohematological Profiles of Hospitalized Patients with Dengue in Kolkata in 2012 Epidemic, West Bengal

Dengue usually presents itself with subclinical or mild infection to full blown dengue fever (DF) to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). In Kolkata, dengue started in 1824 followed by five epidemics that occurred in 1836, 1906, 1911, 1923 and 2005. The aim of this investigation is to study the clinicohematological correlation of all patients with respect to their gen...
